Iraqi forces kill senior Daesh commander near Shirqat
Iraqi security forces have killed a senior commander of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group in Iraq’s northern Salahuddin Province.
The Iraqi forces killed Abu al-Harith al-Libi in a military operation in al-Jahleh Village on the outskirts of the city of Shirqat early on Sunday, a security source told Iraq’s al-Forat news agency on the condition of anonymity.
An unspecified number of other Daesh terrorists were also killed in the military operation, which was launched on information provided by local residents.
Security forces have recently entered Shirqat to liberate it from Daesh.
Separately, Iraqi media reported that Daesh has executed three members of a family who were trying to escape militants in the southwestern Kirkuk Province.
A security source told al-Sumaria news website that Daesh terrorists burned to death a man and a woman and their two-year-old daughter in the Rashad district in the city of Hawijah in Kirkuk on Sunday.
According to the report, the family was ambushed as they were attempting to head to the al-Alam district in neighboring Salahuddin Province through Hamrin Mountains.
The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by gruesome violence ever since Daesh began a campaign of terror in the country in June 2014.
Iraqi army soldiers and allied volunteer fighters have been fighting the terrorists and have won back several militant-held regions in joint operations.
