‘Lebanon’s future banks on war outcome in Syria’
Addressing a ceremony commemorating the death anniversary of one of the leaders of Hezbollah in the southern Lebanese village of Kounin, Hujjat al-Islam Nabil Qawouq, the vice-president of the Executive Council of Hezbollah said, “Saudi Arabia want Syrian government of President Bashar al-Asad to be overthrown and to be eliminated and never return,” Taqrib News Agency (TNA) reported Rasa as saying.
“The new equation created in Syria has demonstrated that despite the weapons sent to Takfiri terrorist groups and the diplomatic efforts from various countries around the world, Saudi Arabia has not been able to realize its goals,” The Lebanese Shi’a cleric added.
He said that when discussing the failure of the foreign-sponsored conspiracy against Syria, we refer to the Syrians’ endurance against the Takfiri terrorists in their country over the past five years and creation of a new equation which has made Syria a significant bulwark against Saudi Arabia and the Takfiri phenomenon.
Hujjat al-Islam Qawouq said that Hezbollah has given its full attention to the fight against Takfiri groups in Syria because the eventual outcome of this war will affect the future of Lebanon. “ISIL and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham [“The Army of Conquest,” formerly the al-Nusrah Front] pose a great and strategic danger for Lebanon and the Lebanese people,” he said.
The senior Hezbollah official pointed out that Lebanon cannot tolerate the existence of terrorist bases on its territory and said: “It is our national duty to continue our fight against Takfiri terrorists both inside and outside Lebanon and defend our homeland and our families.”
Hujjat al-Islam Qawouq added: “We are not like some of the other groups who have retreated from their national responsibility and have humiliated the people. This war is a war of existence and human dignity because of the danger posed by the Takfiri terrorists which everyone embraces.”
