Iraqi Forces Liberate Baghdadi Island in Anbar
Iraqi army and the Hashd Sha’bi forces (Popular Mobilization Forces) managed on Friday to seize full control over the Baghdadi island after liberating it from the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) terrorist group, a statement by The Joint Operations read.
The national military inflicted ISIL terrorists heavy casualties.
“The Seventh Division, Brigade 27, Brigade 2, Island Commandos brigade and the PMF took part in the offensive campaign in the cities of Haditha and Baghdadi included, the statement added.
ISIL overran large areas north and west of Baghdad in 2014, but Iraqi forces have since retaken significant ground including the cities of Tikrit, Ramadi and Fallujah.
