Two suspected Daesh Takfiri terrorists have been shot and killed in Saudi Arabia’s capital city, says the Interior Ministry.

According to the ministry on Saturday, police shot the suspects after they opened fire and injured a cop when they had been surrounded in Riyadh’s northern neighborhood of Yasmeen.

“The security forces, with grace of God, managed to kill the wanted Taye’ bin San bin Yasrim al-Say’ari and Talal bin Samran al-Sa’aeidi after refusing all the calls and initiatives to surrender to security forces,” said Mansour al-Turki, the spokesman for the ministry.

The ministry added that the suspects had been armed with explosives vests, rifles and large amount of ammunition. After the terrorists homes were searched, materials sufficient for making bombs were also found.

Last year, Saudi Arabia said that it had thwarted two Daesh terror plots concerning a bomb attack on a packed football stadium and killing a number of police officers.

On October 30, the Saudi Interior Ministry announced that four men were arrested over plans to detonate a bomb at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium during or after an October 11 World Cup qualifier match against United Arab Emirates in the city of Jeddah. The suspects were arrested one day before the match which gathered over 60,000 fans.

Saudi General Bassam Attiyah said a vehicle carrying around 400 kilograms of explosives was found near the stadium. He added that the suspects had planned to either target people in the stadium’s parking lot or fans watching the match.

The ministry also announced that a separate plot had been foiled in the capital Riyadh in which four people with links to Daesh were detained after evidence surfaced that they had been plotting to attack police officers.
