Syrian Army eyes strategic airbase in east Aleppo

The Syrian Army (SA) launched an important operation on Sunday that targeted the Islamic State’s (ISIL) remaining positions in the eastern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate.

Led by their elite Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army has set their sights on the strategic Jirah Military Airport, which is located directly north of the Maskanah Plain.

Should the Syrian Arab Army take control of the Jirah Airbase, they will be in position to not only secure the Deir Hafer Plain, but also, enter the Maskanah Plain for the first time in four years.

Unlike their previous operations in the Aleppo Governorate , the Syrian Arab Army will not likely halt this assault until they fully expel the Islamic State from this part of the province.
