Lebanese Army attacks ISIL’s positions near Syrian border as reinforcements pour in
The Lebanese Army began shelling the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions in eastern Lebanon, Thursday, as reinforcements continued pouring into the northeastern countryside of Beqa’a Governorate.
Units from the Lebanese Army heavily shelled the Islamic State’s positions along the Syrian border, concentrating on the Ba’albak Highlands and Qa’a Barrens.
In the coming days, the Lebanese Army is expected to begin their ground operation to clear this area along the Syrian border, marking the first time since 2015 that their forces have carried out an offensive in the Qa’a Barrens and Ba’albak Highlands.
With ‘Arsal cleared of jihadist rebels, the battle for Ba’albak Highlands will now be the focal point for the Lebanese Armed Forces.
