SYRIA: Strategic highway to be reopened to public for first time tomorrow
For the first time in seven years, the Homs-Hama Highway (M-5 Highway) will be opened to the public.
According to a government report, the highway is scheduled to be reopened on June 6th, tomorrow, as the construction crews completed the repairs today.
The highway was closed in late 2011 after the Free Syrian Army (FSA) took control of the Al-Rastan Plain, which is located just south of the Hama Governorate’s provincial border.
With the reopening of this highway, the Syrian economy should get a major boost, as the travel distance will be cut significantly short.
