Syrian Army foils major terrorist attack in northeast Latakia
The jihadist rebels launched a major attack against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the northeastern countryside of the Latakia Governorate last night.
Led by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, the jihadist rebels stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s positions to the south of Kabbani.
The battle would ensue for more than five hours, with the jihadist rebels repeatedly attempting to crack the Syrian Arab Army’s lines in this part of the Kurdish Mountains (var. Jabal Al-Akrad).
However, despite some preliminary gains, the jihadist rebels were ultimately forced to retreat after failing to secure the points they captured from the Syrian Arab Army.
According to a military source in Latakia, the Syrian Arab Army managed to foil the jihadist attack, while also killing several militants and downing an HTS drone.
The source added that at least three Syrian Arab Army soldiers were killed during the battle, including one officer.
This is the first major attack by the jihadist rebels in northeast Latakia since the Turkish military setup an observation post in the Kurdish Mountains.
The jihadist rebels recently warned that they will launch a powerful attack against the government forces in Latakia, adding that this is in response to the Syrian Army’s offensive in Daraa.
