Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Regains Control over Strategic Hills in Homs
The Syrian army regained control over strategic hills in Homs countryside in the Central parts of the country.
The army units took back Abu Al-Salasel hills (also known as Um Sharhouh) in Homs countryside.
Also in the past 24 hours, the Syrian army regained control of a strategic region in the Southern parts of Aleppo countryside in Northern Syria.
The army units took back Azan region in Southern Aleppo paving the way for liberating Saraqeb and Abu Al-Zohour regions in Idlib countryside.
Meantime, the Syrian army continued its operations across the country, advancing in the neighborhoods of Um Sharshouh and al-Waer in Homs province.
The army units also encountered the terrorist groups in Aleppo, Daraa, Idlib and Hamah, inflicting heavy losses upon them.
Meanwhile, over 250 Syrian refugees in Lebanon returned to their towns in Qalamoun as the Syrian army restored security across them.
Elsewhere, the Syrian army discovered the bodies of three senior Commanders of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the Eastern parts of the country.
The bodies of the deputy commander of FSA’s Military Council along with two other senior FSA commanders were discovered in Deir Ezzur. The FSA commanders had reportedly been executed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants.
After the victory of President Bashar Al-Assad in the recent presidential election in Syria, the differences among opposition groups have increased. The ISIL, the Al-Nusra Front, the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Ahrar Al-Sham and Jaysh Al-Islam have waged war against each other.
Syrian army troops Saturday eliminated armed groups across the country, killing and injuring a number of their members and destroying their hideouts, concentration centers and weaponry.
A military source said that an army unit foiled an armed group’s attempt to infiltrate from Azizeh village to the safe areas in Aleppo countryside, killing and injuring a number of its members.
The source added that army units targeted armed groups in the old city of Aleppo and in Bani Zaid neighborhood in the city.
The army units also destroyed militants’ hideouts in several villages in Aleppo countryside, killing and injuring a number of them.
In Idlib countryside, the army units targeted an armed group’s hideouts near Bennish and killed a number of militants and destroyed three vehicles for them equipped with heavy machineguns.
Meantime, the ISIL terrorist group stepped up its offensive against rival Jaysh Al-Islam in Eastern Ghouta in Damascus countryside in the Southern parts of Syria.
Fierce clashes between these two groups have increased in the recent week in Syria as the ISIL attacked Jaysh Al-Islam’s positions in Al-Ashari region in Eastern Ghouta, killing a large number of the rival militants and holding captive many others.
Jaysh Al-Islam in a statement announced that the ISIL is fighting against the Sunni Muslims.

It operates chiefly in the Damascus neighborhoods of Douma and Eastern Ghouta. The group is part of the Islamic Front.
The clashes between the Al-Nusra Front and the ISIL have prompted 60,000 people to flee towns in the oil-rich province of Deir Ezzur, while tens of thousands of others have escaped from other regions due to the infightings.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs and terrorists against both the army and civilians.
The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.
As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.
Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
