Poll reveals most American youth think Israel should ‘be ended and given to Hamas’
A new opinion poll shows that the majority of young Americans believe Israel should be “ended and given to [the Palestinian resistance movement] Hamas” following the occupying regime’s war in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Released on Saturday, the survey, carried out by Harvard-Harris polling, said 51 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 believed the key solution to bring to a close the Israel-Palestinian conflict was for “Israel to be ended and given to Hamas and the Palestinians.”
The poll said only 32 percent said they believed in a so-called “two-state” solution, and 17 percent said the Arab countries in the West Asia region should be asked to absorb Palestinian populations.
The findings showed a stark contrast to other age groups, which preferred a two-state solution, with just 4% of American voters in the poll, aged between 65 and over, saying they felt Israel should be ended.
The polling said a full 60 percent of the same age group believed that Hamas’ retaliatory operation on October 7 could be “justified by the grievance of Palestinians.”
When asked if “Israel is committing genocide against those in Gaza or is it just trying to defend itself and eliminate Hamas,” 60 percent of Americans aged 18-24 said Israel was committing genocide — a view held by 37 percent of Americans overall, according to the poll.
A full 67 percent of 18-24-year-olds also said they believed Jews “should be treated as oppressors,” it said.
The findings also confirmed earlier studies that showed young Americans were among the most pro-Hamas population across the United States.
The poll was conducted from December 13 to 14 among 2,034 registered US voters.
Since the start of Israel’s war in Gaza, various US states have been the scene of widespread demonstrations in support of Palestinians in the besieged territory and condemnation of Washington’s unflinching backing of the occupying regime’s atrocities.
Israel launched the devastating war on Gaza on October 7 after Hamas-led Palestinian resistance groups waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the illegal entity in response to the Israeli regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.
Since the start of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has killed some 19,000 Palestinians and injured more than 50,000 others. Thousands more are also missing and presumed dead under the rubble in Gaza, which is under “complete siege” by Israel.
The international community, except for the US, has unanimously called for an end to Israel’s hostilities against Palestinian civilians since the occupying regime unleashed its genocidal war more than two months ago.
