President al-Assad urges transparency in al-Baath Party Central Committee elections

Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad, the Secretary General of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party stressed on an independent and transparent work of the Supreme Committee for Supervision of the party’s Central Committee elections, and called on its members to act with absolute impartiality in the performance of their mission during all stages of the electoral process, whether in the preparation stage or during the elections.

During a meeting with the members of the aforementioned Committee, President al-Assad said that the function of the committee is to ensure that the electoral procedures comply with the approved rules and foundations approved by the party’s central committee.

President al-Assad stressed that the the Supreme committee should not allow any person or entity to interfere in its work or apply pressure.

President al-Assad said “The main objective is the integrity and transparency of partisan elections and that they reflect a true representation of the popular base of al- Baath Party.”

President al-Assad added that elections, with their positive and negative aspects, are the best way to elect party leaders capable of assuming their responsibilities towards the party and its cadres, but the most important thing in the electoral experience is to achieve fair opportunities for all candidates.

His Excellency considered the Supreme committee to be one of the tools to develop the party’s work and preserve and strengthen the electoral process, so that the election results are the basis for the progress of the Baath Party and the development of its national role.
