US stuck in ‘costly quagmire’ in Gaza as Israel reaches ‘dead-end’: Iran
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has said by backing the Israeli regime in its “genocidal” war against the Gaza Strip, the US politicians are caught in a “quagmire” in the besieged territory, which will be costly for them to exit.
In a speech at the University of Tehran on Monday, Amir-Abdollahian said the US is “facing a challenge” and is looking for a “face-saving option” to exit the situation in Gaza.
“Today the politicians in the White House are facing a serious challenge. Some believe that Washington has gone too far and should not have provided full support for Israel’s genocide and crimes over the past three months in Gaza and the West Bank,” he said.
“Today, the fact that American politicians have made a mistake and entered a quagmire in Gaza represents a challenge in the White House,” he added. “Getting out of this quagmire will be quite costly.”
According to Amir-Abdollahian, the Israeli regime followed its dreams of “destroying Hamas” but they did come true.
“They announced that they would disarm Hamas through military, air, ground, and sea operations, but that did not happen,” he said, adding, “They said they will continue the offensive in tunnels and hospitals’ basements in Gaza to release Israeli captives, but they suffered a defeat and could not free one captive.”
He added that Israelis have “reached a dead-end” and Americans, who had talked about “eradicating Hamas,” are now sending messages to Hamas, and in third countries indirectly discuss captive-prisoner exchanges and ways to rule post-war Gaza.
“It indicates that the resistance is following the right path and has snatched another major victory in the past 80 days,” he added.
The Palestinian Hamas resistance group proves “resilient” on the battlefield despite suffering losses in the brutal Israeli aggression against Gaza, war monitors say.
Amir-Abdollahian said the cross-border Operation Al-Aqsa Strom launched on October 7 was a “political and intelligence defeat” for Israel and now Hamas’ 80 days of resistance and response to Israel’s genocide and US support have inflicted a “military and psychological” defeat on the Israeli regime.
He warned that Israel’s partners have only two options: either continue the war and remain stuck in the quagmire and face an “embarrassing defeat”, or agree to a “political solution” by fulfilling the resistance front’s conditions.
