Iran to Furnish Indigenous Hovercraft with Long-Range Missile
Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said that domestically-manufactured hovercrafts will be equipped with long-range missiles and will join the country’s naval fleet.
Rear Admiral Irani stated on Saturday that the naval forces’ fleets of vessels, submarines and aircraft have been overhauled and renovated by Iranian military experts and specialists.
He added that a series of new hovercrafts will join the Iranian Navy soon, which will be armed with homemade long-range missiles.
Iran’s Navy has in recent years achieved self-sufficiency in manufacturing surface and sub-surface vessels. It has also increased its presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and tankers.
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has recently hailed achievements made by Iran’s Navy after the 1979 Islamic Revolution as “remarkable and unbelievable”, stating that the Navy’s presence in remote waters such as the Pacific and Atlantic oceans contributes to national security.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Irani stated that the missile capabilities of the Navy’s southern fleet have been enhanced in terms of quantity and range, as the range of missiles has been extended to 1,000 kilometers.
The Navy has managed to overhaul and renovate its aerial fleet, he added, pointing to the production of a homegrown helicopter suited for electronic warfare.
Lauding the development of dual-purpose torpedoes, the high-ranking commander stated that major achievements in the production of such munitions will be soon put on display.
