Worldwide ceremonies mark anniversary of Iran’s Islamic Revolution
Ceremonies have been held across the world to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the glorious victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.
Celebrations took place in the Vatican, as well as the capitals of Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Spain, Hungary, Bangladesh, Denmark and Ireland.
Each year on the 22nd of the solar calendar month of Bahman, which corresponds with February 11, Iranians mark the overthrow of the US-backed Pahlavi regime in a popular uprising led by Ayatollah Ruhullah Khomeini, the charismatic leader of the revolution.
Less than two months after the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iranians took part in a referendum, where more than 98 percent of eligible voters voted “yes” to the Islamic Republic as a new political system.
Additionally, a referendum was held in December 1979, when 99.5 percent of voters approved the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Moscow
During a ceremony at the Islamic Center in Moscow on Friday evening, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States claimed a global hegemony and aimed to maintain a unipolar system.
However, Iran stood against the US-backed world order and bore the associated costs, he added. The country has today found many allies on its path, including Russia.
Beijing
A similar event was held at the Iranian Embassy in Beijing, with diplomats and foreign representatives, as well as media, cultural and economic figures in attendance.
Iran’s Ambassador to China Mohsen Bakhtiar highlighted the achievements of the Islamic Republic over the past 45 years in various fields, including science, culture, and economy.
Tokyo
In Tokyo, high-ranking Japanese government and parliamentary officials, foreign ambassadors, and Iranian nationals participated in the ceremony marking the Islamic Revolution’s anniversary.
Japan’s Minister for Digital Transformation of Japan Taro Kono was also present at the event.
Seoul
During a ceremony at Lotte Hotel in Seoul, Iran’s Ambassador to South Korea Saeed Koozechi said the Iranian nation and government have achieved brilliant accomplishments in various scientific, technological, and economic areas over the past four decades.
Remarkably, all the achievements were made at a time, when the country faced numerous conspiracies and challenges, including the 1980s’ imposed war, economic sanctions, and maximum pressure, he noted.
Yerevan
Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan was a special guest of the ceremony in Yerevan, which was organized by the Iranian Embassy.
Astana
A group of Kazakh government officials and foreign diplomats, along with representatives of Kazakhstan’s political parties and social organizations, attended a ceremony in Astana.
During the event, Kazakh Minister of Trade and Integration Shakkaliyev Arman described Tehran as an important and reliable partner of Astana in the Persian Gulf region.
Iranian Ambassador to Astana Ali-Akbar Jokar said that the rapid process of holding two referendums after the Islamic Revolution is unique in history.
Dushanbe
Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Alireza Haghighian said, “Within the framework of the Islamic Republic’s independent foreign policy approach and the intelligent use of changes in the world order, Iran as a regional power has become an active, independent and influential actor.”
Madrid
The InterContinental Hotel in Madrid hosted a ceremony, during which Iranian Ambassador to Spain Reza Zabib highlighted the roots of the Islamic Revolution and delineated the achievements of the past four decades in multiple sectors.
Budapest
The event in Budapest was attended by Laszlo Varadi, deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, and members of the Hungary-Iran friendship group, among others.
Dhaka
Iran’s Cultural Centre and Embassy in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka held an en event at the University of Dhaka under the theme “Islamic Revolution in Iran and Its New Message.”
Bangladesh’s Minister of Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Huq, Chancellor of Al-Mustafa International University Ali Abbasi, and Professor Zia Rahman, dean of the faculty of social sciences at the University of Dhaka, were also present as special guests.
Copenhagen
During the ceremony in Copenhagen, Tehran’s Ambassador Afsaneh Nadipour said, “Despite all the conspiracies and obstacles, the Iranian nation made many achievements in the scientific, economic and technological fields by relying on its domestic capabilities as well as natural wealth, unique geography and efficient human resources.”
“These developments have been crystallized in various fields, including self-sufficiency in producing agricultural and industrial products, as well as in nanotechnology, peaceful nuclear energy, etc,” she emphasized.
Dublin
Iran’s Charge d’Affaire to Dublin Kazem Sharif Kazemi said the Iranian government and people are recognized as an independent power across the globe in light of the Islamic Revolution.
Vatican
Tehran’s Ambassador to the Vatican Mohammad Hossein Mokhtari said Iran’s Constitution envisions the rights of all people and fair judicial security.
“The Islamic Republic has made great progress in human rights by relying on Islamic standards and its Constitution,” he added.
