Supreme Leader’s website protests after Instagram bans pages
The website of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has protested Instagram’s blocking of pages associated with the website on the social media platform.
Khamenei.ir, the Leader’s official website, reported the protest in a post on X, former Twitter, on Tuesday.
“Based on media reports, Instagram has blocked certain pages associated with Ayatollah Khamenei’s website because of the support for the oppressed people of Palestine,” the post read.
“Khamenei.ir has protested against the move, calling on Instagram to respect professional standards,” it added.
Meta Platforms, Inc., the American company that runs and owns Instagram, removed the Persian- and English-language accounts belonging to Ayatollah Khamenei on February 8.
The move came following months of incessant lobbying by pro-Israeli groups, which are known for wielding immense influence in the United States, the Israeli regime’s biggest ally.
Meta has been indulging in taking down pro-Palestinian content across Instagram and Facebook, which is likewise owned by the company, since October 7, 2023, when the Israeli regime began a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.
So far, the war has killed more than 29,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured about 70,000 others.
The takedown came on the same day as the Leader said the ongoing catastrophic incidents in the Gaza Strip were a tragedy for the Muslim world and the entire humanity.
