Hamas reports the death of its leader in Lebanon following an barbaric airstrike
The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has reported the death of its leader in Lebanon following an Israeli airstrike targeting the southern region of the country.
The organization reported that Fateh al-Sharif, identified as “a member of the movement’s leadership abroad,” was assassinated during an assault on the al-Bass refugee camp in Tyre on Monday.
The tragic incident also resulted in the deaths of his wife, son, and daughter, officials reported.
Sharif previously held the position of president of the Teachers’ Union for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), an organization dedicated to supporting Palestinian refugees.
Hamas commended his notable contributions to the education sector, lauding him as an exceptionally skilled educator.
The assassination of Sharif occurred amid the Israeli regime’s ongoing military escalation against Lebanon since October, which has intensified and become considerably more lethal earlier this month.
On Friday, the regime initiated a series of concentrated airstrikes targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. The offensive resulted in the assassination of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary general of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, and left hundreds injured or dead.
Numerous resistance factions and local authorities have issued warnings that the regime aims to transform Lebanon into a situation akin to Gaza. According to reports, more than 41,500 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been killed in Gaza since October 7.
The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, recently emphasized that the global community “cannot afford” the negative ramifications of this potential development.
On Sunday, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati leveled accusations against Israel, asserting that the nation is engaging in “daily criminal operations” throughout Lebanon.
