President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that the involvement of foreign nations in the region is unlikely to serve the interests of local countries.

In a meeting held in Tehran on Monday, Pezeshkian delivered remarks while engaging with Shahin Mustafayev, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister.
Pezeshkian stated that Iran holds the conviction that regional nations possess the capability to ensure security and devise solutions through collaborative efforts.
Highlighting the historical and cultural ties between Iran and Azerbaijan, Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations and expediting the execution of existing agreements.
A government official stated that Iran is open to any initiatives aimed at strengthening and expanding relations among Muslim nations.
The construction of border walls is deemed unnecessary for bolstering security and fostering peace and communication between nations.
Pezeshkian has called on Muslim nations to enhance economic ties by opening their markets to one another, thereby facilitating increased collaboration among business leaders across the region.
The President indicated that Iran is open to fostering connectivity through the development of railway and highway infrastructure with Azerbaijan. Additionally, there is a keen interest in broadening collaborative efforts in the fields of energy and agriculture.
In a recent statement, Mustafayev expressed Azerbaijan’s strong interest in broadening its ties with Iran, particularly in economic, trade, energy, cultural, and transit sectors. He emphasized that Baku places high priority on strengthening security and defense collaboration with Tehran.
An Azerbaijani official has stated that the nation is committed to fostering peace in the region, affirming that it holds no territorial ambitions against neighboring countries. Additionally, the official emphasized that Azerbaijan rejects any external claims challenging its territorial integrity.
A spokesperson from Baku emphasized that the nation views diplomatic efforts as the primary means to address and resolve regional challenges.
Mustafayev appeared to be alluding to the ongoing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the contested Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Nagorno-Karabakh, despite being acknowledged globally as Azerbaijani territory, has been predominantly inhabited by ethnic Armenians. In 2020, Azerbaijan achieved substantial territorial advancements during a six-week conflict that resulted in thousands of casualties on both sides. This conflict concluded when Moscow mediated a ceasefire agreement, which entailed the deployment of 1,960 Russian peacekeepers to the area for a duration of five years.
Following the ceasefire agreement, both parties have leveled allegations against one another for violating the terms of the peace accord.
