A large-scale funeral ceremony took place in Tehran to honor senior commander Nilforoushan
In Tehran, a funeral ceremony was held for Major General Abbas Nilforoushan, a high-ranking commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). General Nilforoushan was assassinated last month during an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon that also claimed the life of the Hezbollah leader. The gathering in the Iranian capital witnessed significant attendance, as mourners paid their respects to the late military leader.
On Tuesday, a solemn ceremony unfolded as mourners bore the coffin of Nilforoushan, adorned with the Iranian national flag, through Tehran’s renowned Imam Hussein Square.
General Nilforoushan has been declared martyred following an Israeli assault on several residential structures in Dahiyeh, a southern suburb of Beirut, on September 27.
He, along with Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, was assassinated.
The remains of the Iranian commander were transported from Beirut to the sacred Iraqi city of Karbala, where a significant number of mourners gathered to pay their respects. The funeral was attended by a multitude, including delegates from various Iraqi political factions.
Funeral prayers for General Nilforoushan were conducted under the guidance of a representative from Iraq’s prominent religious leader, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.
A funeral procession took place once again in Najaf, the Iraqi city renowned for the sacred shrine of Imam Ali (AS), the revered first Shia Imam.
The body of Nilforoushan was transported to Tehran on Tuesday.
Additional ceremonies are scheduled to take place in the Iranian cities of Mashhad and Qom prior to the burial of the martyred commander, which is set to occur in Isfahan on Thursday.
