Iranian, Syrian Defense Ministers Meet in Damascus
The defense ministers of Iran and Syria discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues at a meeting in Damascus on Saturday.
Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh and his Syrian counterpart Lieutenant General Ali Mahmoud Abbas held talks about the promotion of defense cooperation between the two countries.
They also highlighted the key role of the regional countries in ensuring security and called for the withdrawal of foreign forces from the region.
Weighing plans for cooperation between Iran and Syria in the fight against terrorism, the two ministers also reviewed the regional developments and the resistance front’s conditions.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Damascus on Saturday evening, the Iranian defense minister highlighted Syria’s place in Iran’s foreign policy.
Hailing Syria’s valuable experiences in the war on terrorism, General Aziz Nasirzadeh described Syria as a main pillar of the resistance axis.
He also noted that Iran is prepared to support the friendly countries according to recommendations of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
The Iranian defense minister is going to hold a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad too.
