Iran Raps US Interference in Venezuela

The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson condemned the US government’s interference in the internal affairs of Venezuela as a violation of international law and the UN Charter.

“Iran considers any foreign intervention in Venezuela’s internal affairs as contrary to int’l law and UN Charter principles and a blow to peace and stability in the country,” Esmaeil Baqaei said in a post on his X account on Saturday night.

“We condemn illegal interventions by the US and some of its allies in Venezuela’s internal affairs – which is reminiscent of malign and divisive interventions of 2019 via recognition of a parallel government – and express our solidarity with Venezuela’s legitimate and elected president, Nicolas Maduro, and commend the efforts of  government and people of Venezuela to overcome the problems caused by US illegal sanctions and unjustified pressures,” he added.

His post came after the United States recognized Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez as the country’s rightful president-elect, following a July election in which President Nicolas Maduro was accused by his domestic opponents of falsely claiming victory.

Washington has also cast doubt on Maduro’s success in the election.
