Lebanese people returning home following victory of the resistance movement
Thousands of Lebanese citizens, previously displaced from the southern regions of the country amid severe and fatal Israeli offensives, are now making their way back home. This development comes as Israel has agreed to a ceasefire with Hezbollah, following significant losses endured in recent months.
On Wednesday, as the agreement came into force, Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network reported that refugees were making their way back, in defiance of warnings reportedly issued by the Israeli military advising against travel to the southern regions.
In the capital city of Beirut, large crowds gathered in a festive atmosphere, marked by jubilant celebrations and the sound of gunfire being fired in the air.
According to the network, Israeli reconnaissance drones have vacated the airspace over the capital. However, the Israeli military contends that its forces are still positioned along the border regions separating Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territories.
Additional reports verified the return of the refugees, indicating that hundreds of vehicles had crossed into southern Lebanon.
Several local resistance groups have celebrated the formation and rise of the new agreement, viewing it as a triumph for the regional Axis of Resistance.
In a significant development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared his support for a ceasefire agreement earlier today. This announcement followed discussions with his security cabinet regarding a proposal advanced by the United States and France.
Just a day prior, he stated, “We will preserve complete freedom of movement… should Hezbollah position rockets, we are prepared to launch an attack.”
Mahmoud Qamati, the deputy head of the Political Council for the Lebanese resistance movement, expressed skepticism over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s intentions. He remarked, “We are cautious of Netanyahu’s history of deceit and will not permit him to circumvent the agreement with any deceptive tactics.”
“It is imperative to closely examine the terms that Netanyahu consented to prior to finalizing the agreement scheduled for tomorrow.”
Last October, Israel escalated its military operations against Lebanon following the initiation of a large-scale conflict in the Gaza Strip. The offensive has resulted in the deaths of at least 3,768 individuals, including 42 fatalities reported throughout the country on Tuesday, and has left 15,699 people injured.
Hezbollah has launched numerous effective retaliatory strikes targeting key military installations within the occupied territories, successfully thwarting Israeli forces’ efforts to advance into southern Lebanon.
The movement has reported that recent strikes resulted in the deaths of over 100 Israeli troops and injuries to more than a thousand others.
Analysts indicate that the successful strikes are seen as a pivotal factor in Tel Aviv’s decision to approve the agreement.
A resistance media outlet reported that despite its significant military capabilities and aggressive actions, the Israeli army has been unable to dismantle the resilient resistance movement, which is deeply rooted in the unwavering spirit of the Lebanese people.
Hezbollah has released excerpts from a 2006 speech delivered by its former secretary general, the late Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed during a heavy Israeli assault on Beirut in September of that year. In the speech, Nasrallah emphasized that neither Hezbollah nor the allied Palestinian resistance groups could be eradicated.
“The possibility of overcoming such opposition is unlikely, as the resistance primarily comprises the populace—a community deeply rooted in faith, driven by unwavering determination, and confident in their triumph. They are a people who embrace martyrdom and categorically refuse to accept humiliation or dishonor.”
