Mikati: Repatriation of Displaced Individuals to Southern Villages Reflects the Resilience of the Lebanese Population
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati released an official statement on Wednesday in response to reports regarding displacement concern.
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati released a statement on Wednesday addressing recent reports of displaced families returning to their homes across different regions of Lebanon, notably in the south. Mikati highlighted that the return of these individuals underscores the profound connection the Lebanese people have with their homeland, values, and cultural heritage.
Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated that authorities have been diligently observing the return of displaced citizens since early this morning, particularly in the southern regions of Lebanon. This development, he noted, underscores the resilience and commitment of the Lebanese people to maintain their connection to their land and values.
In a forward-looking statement, Prime Minister Mikati articulated optimism regarding the Lebanese Army’s strategic initiative to bolster its presence in southern Lebanon. He affirmed that this move would facilitate the phased repatriation of displaced citizens to their ancestral homes and villages in the imminent future.
The Prime Minister appealed to returning citizens and those remaining in their residences to remain patient and await directives from military leaders to guarantee their safety and security.
“We urge all individuals who have returned and those remaining resolute in their homes to exercise caution and adhere to the directives issued by the Army Command for their safety,” Mikati stated.
Following the implementation of the ceasefire agreement with Israel on Wednesday, residents in Lebanon began making their way back to their homes in regions such as Bekaa, southern Lebanon, and Dahiyeh, the southern suburb of Beirut. This movement proceeded despite Israeli warnings against returning, particularly to the southern villages.
