In a statement issued on Tuesday, Israeli Air Force Chief Tomer Bar confirmed that a drone launched from Yemen, which struck a building in the city of Yavne the previous day without triggering any warning sirens, was initially believed to be non-threatening.
The Israeli military has disclosed that an investigation led by Bar into a recent incident revealed that a drone was initially identified as suspicious and scheduled for interception. However, military officials subsequently opted against taking it down, determining it was a civilian aircraft.
According to the statement, no sirens were activated as the drone was not deemed a threat.
In a statement, Bar criticized the Air Force, asserting that it did not adequately respond to the incident and failed to ensure the safety and alertness of Israeli citizens.
He emphasized that moving forward, sirens should be activated as a precautionary measure even if the threat level of a detected drone has not been fully assessed.
On Monday, the Yemeni Armed Forces reported carrying out a drone strike on a target in Yavne, citing the operation as an act of solidarity with the besieged population of Gaza.
