Lebanon has mobilized its military forces in a border town following the withdrawal of zionist troops

The Lebanese Armed Forces have deployed troops to the town of Khiam, located near the border with the territories under Israeli occupation, in response to the recent withdrawal of Israeli forces as part of a newly established ceasefire agreement.

The Lebanese Armed Forces have been deployed to the town of Khiam, situated near the border with the territories under Israeli occupation, subsequent to the withdrawal of Israeli troops as part of a newly established ceasefire agreement.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Lebanese army confirmed that its forces have been strategically positioned in five locations surrounding Khiam, in collaboration with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). This operation marks the initial phase of deployment in the region, coinciding with the withdrawal of Israeli forces.

The statement indicated that the deployment is set to be finalized in the upcoming phase. Meanwhile, specialized units are slated to conduct a thorough survey of the town to clear unexploded ordnance.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced that the deployment of troops in Khiam marks a crucial advancement in bolstering the army’s presence in the south, aligning with the enforcement of the ceasefire agreement.

In a post on platform X, he commended the army’s efforts in bringing about stability in the southern regions.

After nearly 14 months of intense conflict and significant setbacks, Israel has agreed to a truce with the Hezbollah resistance movement. The decision follows substantial casualties and Israel’s inability to accomplish its objectives in the military campaign against Lebanon.

On November 27, a ceasefire agreement commenced, mandating Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon by late January. The accord has been widely lauded as a ‘victory’ for the resistance. In the wake of this agreement, thousands of displaced Lebanese have begun returning to southern Lebanon as the ceasefire between the Israeli forces and Hezbollah takes effect.

On Wednesday, the Israeli military officially announced the withdrawal of its forces from Khiam, aligning with the recent truce agreement reached with Hezbollah.

The statement, however, indicated that occupation forces continue to be stationed in other regions of southern Lebanon.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced via a post on X that General Erik Kurilla, its commanding officer, traveled to Beirut on Wednesday to oversee the transition of military positions in Khiam from Israeli troops to Lebanese forces.

Kurilla described the move as a pivotal initial action towards establishing a durable ceasefire, which sets the groundwork for ongoing advancements. During his visit, Kurilla also held discussions with Lebanon’s Armed Forces Commander, General Joseph Aoun.

The conflict initiated by Israel in Lebanon has resulted in the deaths of nearly 4,000 individuals and left over 16,000 others injured, as reported by the nation’s health ministry.

Hezbollah initiated a support campaign for Palestinians in Gaza just a day following Israel’s launch of military operations against the blockaded region in October 2023. This included the execution of several retaliatory strikes on Israeli positions within the occupied territories.
