Iran: US-UK actions in Yemen as a clear violation of international law
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson issued a stern condemnation of the recent acts of aggression attributed to the United States and Britain in northwestern Yemen.
In a statement issued on Monday, Esmaeil Baghaei accused the United States and Britain of persistently engaging in coordinated military actions against Yemen, while simultaneously maintaining their staunch support for what he described as the Israeli regime’s genocidal conflict against Palestinians in Gaza.
He stated that these attacks represent a clear breach of international law and the United Nations Charter, perpetrated by two of the permanent members of the UN Security Council.
Baghaei commended the Yemeni people’s “honorable” support and solidarity with Palestinians amid the Israeli regime’s occupation and ensuing violence.
An Iranian spokesperson has urged the international community, global organizations, and Muslim nations to uphold their legal and humanitarian responsibilities by supporting the oppressed population of Yemen. The call to action includes condemning what is described as U.S.-U.K. military aggression and destabilizing activities in the West Asia region.
In a coordinated military operation, American and British fighter jets launched an airstrike in Yemen’s Hajjah province early Monday. This action takes place as Yemen continues its maritime activities targeting vessels associated with Israel and its allies in the Red Sea.
Reports indicate that airstrikes targeted the Buhais region within the Midi district of the province. However, there were no details released concerning potential casualties or the extent of the damage caused by these strikes.
United States and British military aircraft conducted targeted operations in several locations within the At Tuhayta district of Yemen’s strategically important western province of Hudaydah. As of now, information regarding any potential human casualties or material damage resulting from these airstrikes has not been released.
In a notable demonstration of solidarity, the people of Yemen have openly expressed their support for Palestine in its ongoing conflict with Israeli forces, following the commencement of Israel’s intensive military operations in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
