Journalists lost their lives as a result of zionist airstrikes in Gaza

Two additional Palestinian journalists have lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, which remains under siege. This brings the total number of fatalities to at least 203 since the onset of Israeli military actions in October 2023.

Omar al-Deirawi lost his life in the early hours of Friday in the town of Az-Zawayda, situated approximately three kilometers northeast of Deir al-Balah, following an Israeli strike that targeted his family’s residence.

On Thursday, Palestinian journalist Hassan al-Qishawi tragically lost his life in an Israeli drone strike that targeted an area west of Gaza City.

This incident follows a week after one of the most lethal attacks on journalists in Gaza by Israeli forces. On December 26, a broadcast van stationed near al-Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza was struck, resulting in the deaths of five media personnel.

Journalists operating in Palestinian regions face significant dangers amid the intensifying conflict, particularly due to Israeli ground operations and airstrikes. These challenges are compounded by issues such as disrupted communication networks, supply shortages, and frequent power outages.

Amidst significant challenges, Palestinian journalists have continued to chronicle the harrowing events of the conflict, serving as crucial observers for the international community during one of the deadliest wars of the 21st century.

Supported by the United States and its Western allies, Israel initiated military operations in Gaza on October 7, 2023. This action followed an offensive by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, known as Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, which was carried out against Israel in retaliation for what Palestinians cite as longstanding policies of oppression by the Israeli government.

According to recent reports, the ongoing military campaign in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 45,581 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, with 108,438 individuals sustaining injuries. Additionally, thousands remain unaccounted for and are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.

On November 21 of the previous year, the International Criminal Court (ICC) announced the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Military Affairs Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to actions in Gaza.
