Iran’s FM Meets Hamas Leaders in Qatar, Discusses Gaza Reconstruction

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met with senior Hamas officials in Doha on Thursday, focusing on Gaza’s reconstruction and the latest political and field developments.

The meeting was attended by high-ranking Hamas figures, including Mohammed Darwish, head of Hamas’ Shura Advisory Council, and Khalil al-Hayya, the group’s chief negotiator.

The discussions coincided with the third phase of a prisoner exchange deal between Hamas and Israel. Topics included the implementation of the ceasefire, ongoing prisoner swaps, and Israeli delays in humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.

Darwish described Al-Aqsa Storm operation as a “turning point” in the Palestinian struggle, asserting that Israeli efforts to displace Palestinians through war and other means had failed. He reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s determination to uphold their rights, sacred sites, and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Araqchi reiterated Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and praised the resistance in Gaza, stating that it had disproven Israel’s claims of military superiority. He highlighted Gaza’s “unprecedented heroic operation” both militarily and in negotiations, which led to the ceasefire and prisoner exchange following 15 months of genocidal war.

Meeting with Qatari Prime Minister

Araqchi also held talks with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, discussing developments in Gaza, the occupied Palestinian territories, and Syria.

The two officials addressed regional matters and bilateral ties, emphasizing support for Syria’s sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity. Araqchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to strengthening relations with Qatar and commended Doha’s role in facilitating the Gaza ceasefire.

He stressed the importance of ensuring the ceasefire’s implementation, citing Israel’s history of violating agreements and obstructing peace efforts.

Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani reiterated Qatar’s commitment to deepening ties with Iran and acknowledged Tehran’s role in regional stability and peace efforts.
