Israeli aircraft conduct airstrikes on southern Lebanon, breaching the terms of the ceasefire agreement

In a breach of the existing ceasefire agreement, Israeli military aircraft conducted a series of airstrikes targeting multiple locations in southern Lebanon.

According to a report by Lebanon’s private LBCI television station, military aircraft conducted strikes on areas in proximity to the Litani River on Thursday night, specifically targeting the towns of Yohmor al-Shaqif and Zoutr al-Sharqiya.

Israeli fighter jets conducted airstrikes targeting the municipalities of Deir Siryan, Zibqin, and Yater.

No immediate reports have surfaced concerning potential casualties or the extent of the damage incurred.

Several hours subsequent to the initial incident, the Israeli Defense Forces issued a statement indicating that their strikes were directed at “military sites housing weapons and launchers” associated with the Hezbollah resistance movement.

Following nearly 14 months of significant losses and unmet objectives in its campaign against Lebanon, Israel has been compelled to agree to a ceasefire with Hezbollah. The cessation of hostilities was officially implemented on November 27.

Since the inception of the agreement, occupation forces have repeatedly engaged in near-daily attacks on Lebanese territory, breaching the ceasefire. These actions include conducting airstrikes across the Arab nation.

On January 10, Lebanon officially filed a complaint with the United Nations Security Council, accusing Israel of aggressive actions against agricultural lands and livestock in the southern part of the country, which they claim breaches the existing ceasefire agreement.

Hezbollah has called on the Lebanese government to ensure the full withdrawal of Israeli military forces from southern Lebanon, placing the onus on authorities in Beirut to oversee the process.

On January 27, Lebanese authorities confirmed their decision to prolong the ceasefire with Israel, extending the truce until February 18.

The announcement was made even as the Israeli military missed its deadline for troop withdrawal, with reports indicating the deaths of nearly 24 individuals in the country’s southern region.
