Hamas, Islamic Jihad condemns ‘israel’s operation targeting detainees at Ofer prison

The Hamas and Islamic Jihad resistance movements have issued a strong condemnation in response to a recent raid carried out by special Israeli prison units on a section of Ofer Prison, located west of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. They described the assault on Palestinian detainees as a criminal act, characterizing it as indicative of the Tel Aviv regime's alleged terrorist nature.

Hamas has condemned recent attacks as acts of aggression by Israel against Palestinian prisoners, describing them as futile efforts to restore the damaged image of the Zionist state.

The movement subsequently urged for the disclosure of what they described as “Israeli inhumane actions and violations against Palestinian detainees.”

The Islamic Jihad movement has condemned what it describes as a “brutal attack” carried out by the Israeli authorities against Palestinian inmates at Ofer Prison on Sunday evening. The group asserts that this incident underscores what it terms the “vicious nature” of the Israeli regime.

In a statement, it was conveyed that the harassment and assaults inflicted upon prisoners underscore the aggressive and cruel nature of the regime. The statement further suggested that this behavior reflects the alarming moral decline and crisis currently facing the Zionist entity.

The Gaza-based organization announced that the Israeli government, confronted with the unwavering determination of the Palestinian people, was compelled to consent to a captives-for-prisoners exchange agreement. The group claimed this development undermined the perceived authority and standing of the Israeli regime.

According to the Prisoners’ Media Office managed by Hamas, inmates at Ofer Prison were reportedly subjected to physical assaults and tear gas deployment during a raid conducted by Israeli forces. Details regarding any potential injuries sustained during the incident have yet to be disclosed.

Reports Emerge of Alleged Misconduct Affecting Over a Dozen Palestinian Women in Damon Prison

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has raised concerns over worsening conditions for 13 female Palestinian inmates at Damon Prison. The organization alleges that these prisoners are subjected to increasingly severe treatment by Israeli prison authorities.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the commission reported that the detained women are being held in cold cells, where windows are left open, and there is a shortage of clothing and blankets, despite the chilly temperatures.

The statement further revealed that the women are enduring various forms of mistreatment. Reports indicate they are being shackled, blindfolded, and forcibly dragged when taken to medical facilities or when meeting with legal representatives.

The Commission highlighted that female detainees are often subjected to sudden and frequent transfers between cells, a tactic designed to destabilize their sense of stability within the prison environment.

A visiting lawyer has reported allegations from several female inmates that prison guards have been entering their cells at night while they are asleep. As a precaution against these intrusions, the women have resorted to sleeping with headscarves.

Reports indicate that Palestinian detainees, particularly those from Gaza held by Israeli authorities, are subjected to conditions that lack adequate sanitary standards. Furthermore, these inmates reportedly face systematic mistreatment, including allegations of torture, harassment, and repression.

According to human rights organizations, Israel is reportedly continuing to infringe upon the rights and freedoms accorded to prisoners under the Fourth Geneva Convention and international law frameworks.

The Palestine Detainees Studies Center reports that approximately 60 percent of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails are afflicted with chronic illnesses. A significant portion of these individuals either succumbed to their conditions while incarcerated or passed away following their release, highlighting the gravity of their medical situations.

Palestinian detainees have repeatedly initiated open-ended hunger strikes to protest their detention, which they deem unlawful.
