Syrian army makes new gains in Dayr al-Zawr
Syrian army forces have managed to make fresh advances against the foreign-backed Takfiri militants in the eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr.
On Wednesday, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported severe clashes on the outskirts of the Dayr al-Zawr military airbase.
Dozens of militants were reportedly killed there while two militant hideouts and several vehicles were destroyed.
Forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad also carried out airstrikes against ISIL position in the Jisr al-Syasiyeh area.
Over the past months, Syrian soldiers have made numerous gains in the battle against the foreign-sponsored militants, inflicting heavy losses on them in several areas.
Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The United Nations says more than 200,000 people have so far lost their lives in the violence.
The government of President Assad has vowed to push ahead with its efforts to root out terrorism in the Arab country and establish national reconciliation.
