The recent developments in northeast Aleppo have become extremely concerning for the Islamic Front (Jabhat Al-Islamiyya), as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) have steadily progressed through the provincial capital and into rebel-held districts that were once considered untouchable for the army.

To add to the plight of the exhausted Islamic Front in the strategic Handarat District, the SAA – backed by Hezbollah – broke-through rebel defenses and advanced from the southern corridor to the northern perimeter of the Handarat Refugee Camp (All refugees fled in 2012). According to a Syrian military source, the Handarat Refugee Camp is on the brink of capture by the SAA; if true, the Islamic Front will suffer a major setback in northeast Aleppo.

While, the Islamic Front faces encirclement in Aleppo City, they find themselves combatting the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) at the village of Marre in the northern part of the province. Earlier today, Syrian Opposition activists reported that firefights have intensified in this northern Aleppo village, after ISIS launched full-scale attack from the east.

Near the Al-Oweeja District, the SAA is on the verge of completing its encirclement of the city of Aleppo after advancing towards the vital Al-Castillo Roundabout. A military source reported today that the SAA is now 100 meters away from the Al-Castillo Roundabout, while also, progressing south of the village of Al-Bureijj.
