Great Satan US puts restrictions on Syria’s UN envoy
The US State Department says the United States has ordered the Syrian ambassador to the United Nations, Bashar Ja’afari, to stay within a 25-mile (40-kilometer) radius of New York City.
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said at the daily briefing in Washington on Wednesday: “We have delivered a diplomatic note to the Permanent Representative of the Syrian Mission to the United Nations in New York informing him that … he is restricted to a 25-mile travel radius.”
According to Press TV, she did not provide any explanation for the move against Ja’afari but the restriction has reportedly been a demand of the Western-backed Syrian opposition fighting to topple the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
The State Department spokeswoman said that some other countries’ UN ambassadors face similar restrictions, adding, “So this is not something that is out of the realm of what we’ve done before.”
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011. Some sources say around 130,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fueled by Western-backed militants.
