Syria army achieves more gains in battle against terrorists
The Syrian army has reported new operations and gains against terrorists across the country, saying it has also destroyed many armaments belonging to the militants.
Syrian army units destroyed two cars equipped with heavy machineguns on Wednesday and killed or injured a group of militants in the Damascus suburban town of Yabroud, Syria’s official news agency SANA reported on Thursday.
Other army units continued to gain more ground in Rima Farms region on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, after killing militants from the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and destroying their weapons and equipment.
Additionally, Syrian troops eliminated more militants north of Yabroud, near the town of al-Sahl, SANA said.
Moreover, the official Syrian news agency said the heaviest casualties were inflicted on the militant groups during a special operation in al-Ebb farms in the city of Douma, during which a large amount of arms and ammunition were destroyed.
Syrian army units also carried out a series of operations targeting militant-held areas in Khan al-Sheih and Zakiya neighborhoods in al-Kisweh area of Damascus, eliminating many militants and destroying a number of their vehicles.
According to SANA, Syrian troops further attacked militant forces in the Idleb countryside, inflicting heavy losses on militants including members from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Chad, Tunisia, Egypt and Afghanistan.
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011.
According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
