Terrorism drawing its last breath in Syria: deputy-FM
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the comment in an interview with IRIB, highlighting the role of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad as the main part of the solution to the Syrian crisis; “his role in preserving Syria’s national integrity and combating terrorism is undeniable,” he said.
He also added that Iran attaches great importance to Syrians’ resistance, leadership and demands of independent national opposition which abides by political solution.
Stressing that Tehran will continue its support of the Syrian people, Amir-Abdollahian noted that an unsafe and unstable Syria would only lead to an unsafe region as a whole; “security is an interconnected, integrated and inseparable issue,” he said.
Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The ISIL terrorists that control large parts of Syria and Iraq have threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians.
More than 200,000 people have been killed so far in the conflict in Syria, according to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein.
The government of Assad has vowed to push ahead with its efforts to root out terrorism in the country and establish national reconciliation.
