Araghchi: Indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States have been suspended due to particular regional circumstances

Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced that the indirect discussions between Tehran and Washington, facilitated by Oman, have been suspended. This pause in dialogue is attributed to the "specific circumstances of the region."

Araghchi, currently on a visit to Muscat, emphasized on Monday that Oman has consistently played a significant role in addressing regional issues. He highlighted Oman’s efforts in facilitating communication and fostering an environment conducive to negotiations between Iran and the United States.

According to a statement, Oman has facilitated indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington through its mediation efforts known as the “Muscat Process.”

The senior Iranian official announced that there is currently no basis for resuming talks amidst the ongoing crisis. Tehran will assess and determine the conditions under which the dialogue might be restarted.

In response to inquiries about whether he delivered a message to the United States during his visit to Oman, Araghchi stated that no message was relayed to any other nations during the trip.

During discussions with regional officials, he conveyed Iran’s position and urged them to communicate the Islamic Republic’s stance to all relevant parties.

The minister emphasized the importance for the United States, European nations, and regional states to acknowledge Iran’s position on developments within the region.

In a statement, Araghchi reiterated the nation’s stance, emphasizing that while they are thoroughly prepared for any potential conflict, their primary objective remains the avoidance of war. He underscored the emphasis on diplomatic efforts as the preferred path forward.

The Iranian minister has described the regional situation as “alarming” and warned that it could potentially lead to widespread conflicts. He emphasized that only diplomatic efforts can avert significant crises and prevent an escalation of tensions and warfare.

On October 1, Iran initiated a large-scale missile offensive, deploying hundreds of missiles targeting military, espionage, and intelligence installations across the Israeli-occupied territories. This action was undertaken as part of what is being called Operation True Promise II.

The recent operation was initiated following the regime’s targeted killing of high-ranking officials from the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance movements, alongside a commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). In retaliation, Israel has pledged to take action.
