Barzeh District of Damascus officially under Syrian gov’t control for first time in 6 years
The Syrian government has officially taken full control of the Barzeh District in Damascus after the last batch of militants and their families exited the area.
The last batch of militants and their families left Barzeh earlier today and they are scheduled to arrive in the Idlib Governorate tonight.
Barzeh was one of the first districts in the Syrian capital that fell to the rebel forces in late 2011.
However, since 2014, Barzeh was under a relatively loose ceasefire deal that was often broken by jihadist rebels infiltrating from nearby districts.
With Barzeh under their control, the Syrian government has officially cleared the eastern districts of Damascus.
