Battle Map Update of Deir Ezzor: ISIS Repelled Once Against at the Airport
After almost 2 weeks of relatively no attacks, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) attempted a surprise assault from the eastern perimeter of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport late last night. However, the surprise attack was cut short, when the ISIS fighters unknowingly entered a minefield that was setup by the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard.
Following ISIS’ entrance into the minefield, the 104th Brigade opened fire on the militants attempting to scurry away from danger, killing a number of the fighters before the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) began its persistent bombardment of the enemy combatants. According to a military source from the 104th Brigade, at approximately 2 A.M. Damascus Time, the Deir Ezzor Airport was declared safe and under control.
At Sakr Island (Haweeja Sakr), the 104th Brigade continued their push towards the Eastern Bank Fisheries in order to obstruct ISIS’ final supply center on the island. The 104th Brigade was able to kill a number of ISIS militants at Central Park; this group of dead fighters included “Abu Ahmad Al-Leebi” (Libyan), ‘Issa Ibrahim ‘Attallah (Iraqi), Mounir Radwan Al-Nasser, and Thabat ‘Umar Ahmad Al-Ghareeb.
