Breaking: Syrian Army liberates strategic area along Palmyra-Deir Ezzor Highway
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) liberated the strategic Arak Triangle area in the eastern countryside of Palmyra, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday morning.
Led by their 5th Corps and 11th Tank Division, the Syrian Arab Army resumed their field operations north of Arak, Tuesday, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIL) last positions at the Mustadirah Mountains.
By the late afternoon hours on Tuesday, the Syrian Arab Army had entered Arak and were steadily progressing through the town, despite heavy resistance from the Islamic State.
The Arak Triangle was declared terrorist-free earlier this morning, following the entrance of Syrian Army sappers to clear the town of all mines and IEDs.
With the Arak Triangle liberated, the Syrian Arab Army will now shift their attention to Sukhnah, which is the last major town under the Islamic State’s control.
