Field Report: Syrian Army attacks terrorists stronghold in Eastern Ghouta
The Syrian Armed Forces, backed by allied fighters from the Lebanon’s Hezbollah, launched today early morning a new military operation to recapture the rebel-held town of Jisreen in the Eastern Ghouta. The attacking forces, which marched on from Al-Mleha, managed to advance for nearly 500 meters deep in the town’s farms with heavy airstrikes and artillery cover.
According to a military source, 11 terrorists were killed after the Army’s engineering units detonated a tunnel under a villa they were entrenched in. Jisreen, located to the north of Al-Mleha, is mainly controlled by Jabhet al-Nusra – the Syrian al-Qaeda branch – and Falyaq al-Rahman. Last week, the Syrian Army and Hezbollah fighters stormed the town of al-Muhammadiyah to the east of Jisreen after heavy clashes with Islamist rebels.
