Following the fall of Homs, the Syrian army encountered no further resistance
The Iranian Ambassador to Damascus, Hossein Akbari, announced that since the fall of Homs, both the Syrian military forces and the civilian population have opted against resistance, instead favoring a peaceful transition of power.
In a Sunday broadcast, the Iranian ambassador to Syria announced recent developments in Syria, revealing that the Syrian government met the previous evening and resolved that there would be no defense efforts in the capital. Rather, it was decided that the complete government and its various sectors would be formally transferred. This resolution was relayed to the public and military personnel via an official statement issued by the prime minister.
He highlighted the distinctions between the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group and Daesh militants, noting that HTS has previously engaged in combat against Daesh. He underscored both intellectual and legal disparities between the two entities, drawing a clear line between them.
In other parts of his statement, the Iranian ambassador to Syria highlighted that the “Zionist regime is currently celebrating its success in neutralizing one of its adversaries, portraying this move as a major triumph amid the ongoing crisis. This is especially emphasized by Benjamin Netanyahu, who is seeking to claim credit for this action and to showcase it as a significant accomplishment in the current situation.”
The ambassador emphasized a twofold concern, stating that the deployment and strengthening of these forces in the region could potentially present a significant dual threat to the Zionist regime. Consequently, the regime has made the implementation of preventive measures a top priority.
In a recent statement, Ambassador Akbari expressed that Syria’s course of action was prudent, asserting that when military forces are unable to hold their ground, civilian resistance becomes untenable. He emphasized that in such situations, it is preferable to halt the violence and stave off the destruction of various locales and institutions.
The primary issue in Syria revolves around the welfare of the Syrian populace, who are the legitimate custodians of the nation’s land, governance, and future, he stated. He further highlighted that amidst the prevailing conditions, the multitude of differing viewpoints, and the extensive involvement of foreign nations, there looms a threat to the security and stability of this community.
In a recent statement, he emphasized, “We consider anyone who defies oppression, especially the actions of the Zionist regime, to be our ally. We uphold the sovereignty of Syria as well as that of all nations globally. Even when a country adopts a stance divergent from ours, we do not impose our viewpoints on others.”
He further stated that the United States may find itself unable to realize its aspirations for a purportedly new Middle East. He remarked, “I believe the unfolding events in the region will surpass American influence and potentially pose significant challenges to their strategic aims.”
