FSA Commander Responsible For Massacring Druze Was Killed In Daraa
The leader of the Al-’Umari Brigades, Captain Qais Qata’na, was killed by the Syrian Arab Army near Al-Lajat in southern Dara’a. According to Syrian Opposition sources, Qata’na was targeted for an assassination by the Syrian Intelligence – he was discovered with 3 bullets in his chest.
Qata’na was a Syrian Arab Army defector that was considered by the Syrian National Council as part of moderate rebel leadership. However, last week, Qata’na led a massacre of Druze Sheikhs at the village of Dama in the As-Sweida Governate. 13 unarmed Sheikhs, along with a 10 year old boy, were brutally killed by the Al-’Umari Brigades.
The Free Syrian Army has not commented on the death of their high ranking officer. Qata’na’s body was recovered by the Al-’Umeri Brigades, who issued a statement calling Qata’na a “martyr murdered by the regime.”
