Gaza’s children face renewed horror amid escalating Israeli attacks

The Israeli regime has killed 103 Palestinians and wounded 223 others daily since renewing its brutal aggression against Gaza, with children being the most affected.

The Geneva-based Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor reported on Thursday that over 830 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and 1,787 others wounded since Israel resumed its war on Gaza on March 18, averaging 103 killed and 223 wounded daily.

The Euro-Med report condemned the Israeli aggression, highlighting that civilians—including those seeking refuge in makeshift tents and the ruins of their homes—are being deliberately targeted.

“Without any military justification, the Israeli occupation army has committed the crime of targeting homes – or what is left of them – every day,” the statement declared, characterizing the ongoing violence as part of a systematic Israeli policy aimed at destroying Palestinians.

The situation for children in Gaza is particularly dire. Over the past 17 months, relentless bombardments have decimated homes, destroyed schools, and overwhelmed healthcare facilities.

Schools, which should be sanctuaries for learning, are now unsafe as 35 have been damaged, and at least 29 are currently sheltering displaced families.

The grim statistics reveal the profound impact on the youngest generation: if you were to gather 100 children, two would be killed, two would be missing and presumed dead, three would be critically wounded, and five would be orphaned or separated from their parents.

The remaining children are left to grapple with the invisible scars of war, wrestling with trauma that affects their mental health, safety, and future.

Since the onset of the war on October 7, 2023, at least 17,400 children have been killed in Gaza, with 15,600 of them already identified.

Among them are 825 infants who never had the chance to celebrate their first birthdays and 895 one-year-olds who perished before taking their first steps.

Netanyahu declares an intensification of assaults on Gaza, saying the recent airstrikes are merely the beginning of larger aggression against Palestinians.

The statistics paint a grim picture of a generation lost to violence, with 4,032 children aged six to ten perishing, leaving behind empty classrooms and shattered dreams.

The humanitarian crisis continues to worsen, with tens of thousands of people forced to flee their homes just weeks after returning to their homes. The Israeli military has issued new evacuation orders in northern and southern Gaza, warning residents of impending attacks.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that Gaza now has the largest number of child amputees in modern history.

Aid organizations and UN agencies have repeatedly asserted that there are no safe areas in Gaza. Save the Children has described the resumption of hostilities as a “death sentence” for children.

“Children are being killed in their sleep in tents. They are being starved and attacked. The only way to ensure children and families are protected is through a definitive ceasefire,” the charity stated.

The regime’s bloody onslaught on Gaza has so far killed at least 50,183 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 113,828 others. Thousands more are also missing and presumed dead under the rubble.
