Hamas has asserted that recent reports by Israeli media indicating the Israeli army's recruitment of "African asylum seekers" to serve as mercenaries highlight the profound moral crisis within Israel.
GAZA, (Palestinian Information Center)
Hamas has asserted that recent reports from Israeli media, indicating that the Israeli military is enlisting “African asylum seekers” as mercenaries, serve as a testament to the profound moral crisis within Israel.
Haaretz reported on Sunday that the Israeli military is allegedly coercing African asylum seekers into participating in potentially dangerous military operations in Gaza by offering them the incentive of permanent residency status. The newspaper claims this practice involves leveraging the promise of permanent residency to secure the involvement of asylum seekers in life-threatening missions.
The statement further indicated that the project is progressing in a structured fashion, with oversight provided by the army’s legal experts.
In a recent press release, Hamas asserted that the recruitment of immigrants and asylum seekers by Israel constitutes a blatant violation of fundamental human rights. The group claims that Israel is exploiting these vulnerable populations to bolster its military forces, purportedly to offset significant losses incurred during its ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas has urged the international community and human rights organizations to denounce what it describes as a “criminal act” indicative of the conduct of “racist gangs.” The group called for immediate actions to be taken against Israeli officials to hold them accountable for breaches of international and humanitarian law.
As reported by Haaretz, approximately 30,000 African asylum seekers reside in Israel, with the majority being young individuals.
According to an Israeli newspaper, unidentified security sources have reported that the Israeli military has deployed asylum seekers for perilous assignments in multiple operations, some of which have been publicized in the media.
