Hamas remains steadfast in its stance on a ceasefire, resisting significant external pressure
A senior leader of Hamas, speaking anonymously to The New Arab on Wednesday, stated that despite intense pressure on Gaza’s resistance to agree to a settlement that falls short of fundamental demands, Hamas remains steadfast. The organization is firmly opposed to any move that would legitimize the Israeli occupation of Gaza under any conditions.
Hamas and other resistance factions have expressed firm opposition to the Israeli government’s move to establish a 50-kilometer buffer zone within Gaza, branding it a violation of Palestinian land. These groups demand the full withdrawal of Israeli military forces from the Gaza Strip, the initiation of a comprehensive ceasefire, and the commencement of reconstruction efforts in Gaza. These conditions have been presented as prerequisites for the potential release of Israeli prisoners.
The New Arab has reported that an Egyptian security delegation is scheduled to travel to Tel Aviv for discussions with Israeli officials as part of the ongoing prisoner exchange agreement.
According to a report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the conflict in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in the deaths of at least 44,211 Palestinians. The report indicates that women and children account for nearly 70% of the casualties.
