Hamas: Zionist regime entirely accountable for the security of the detained director of a hospital in Gaza
The Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, has stated that it holds Israel fully accountable for the recent detention of the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital.
On Monday, Hamas issued a statement attributing full responsibility to the Zionist occupation for the wellbeing of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, along with nurses and paramedics who have been allegedly abducted by the occupation forces.
A statement has been issued urging the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and various international human rights organizations to apply pressure on the occupying authorities to disclose the whereabouts of Dr. Abu Safiya and his colleagues, who were reportedly abducted while performing their professional duties. The call to action demands their immediate release.
According to recent US media reports, Safiya, apprehended during an Israeli operation which led to the closure of the last major operational healthcare facility in northern Gaza, is currently detained at a military base that serves as a detention center.
According to a CNN report, two recently released Palestinian inmates disclosed that they had witnessed the presence of Abu Safiya at the prison. Additionally, another ex-detainee mentioned hearing Abu Safiya’s name announced within the facility.
On Friday, Israeli military forces launched an operation at the hospital, ending a blockade that has lasted nearly three months accompanied by relentless airstrikes directed at the hospital and its vicinity.
The bombardment sparked fires across multiple departments within a hospital, leading to fatalities and injuries among Palestinian medical personnel and patients.
In a harrowing incident, all remaining medical staff, patients, and their families were forcibly evacuated from the hospital at gunpoint. They were reportedly stripped down to their undergarments and transported to an undisclosed location.
There is increasing pressure for the swift release of Dr. Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who was reportedly detained by Israeli forces after displaying significant resistance against the regime’s actions.
Israeli forces reportedly conducted a forceful detention and interrogation of medical personnel at Kamal Adwan Hospital, one of the remaining operational healthcare facilities in Gaza.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, approximately 50 individuals, including medical personnel, were killed in Israeli airstrikes near a hospital on Friday. The ministry also reported that additional individuals were abducted by Israeli forces.
Safiya has been detained for questioning by the Israeli military due to suspected connections with the Palestinian resistance organization Hamas, sources reported.
In a recent statement, Hamas urged the international community and relevant organizations to take action to provide essential medical services to residents in the northern Gaza Strip. This plea comes in the wake of the Israeli military’s actions, which reportedly resulted in the destruction of all health facilities in the region, rendering them non-operational.
International humanitarian organizations have reported that assaults on hospitals, ambulances, and healthcare workers constitute a significant strategy in the ongoing conflict against Palestinians in Gaza, which they describe as having genocidal characteristics.
Israel’s actions targeting civilian infrastructure, hospitals, and healthcare facilities in the Palestinian territories have been described as part of a strategic initiative aimed at imposing collective punishment and reducing the population in the blockaded region.
