The Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military faction, published a video statement on Friday featuring Israeli soldier Matan Angrest. In the video, Angrest stated that the advancement to the subsequent phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement is the sole method to ensure the liberation of the other captives.
Angrest, a captive from the October 7 resistance operation, expressed a deep sense of abandonment and despair, stating, “It feels as though the army, state, and government have left us behind. Our hope is diminishing as we struggle to envision a resolution to this situation.”
A speaker has issued a defiant statement to the military, asserting that efforts to repatriate them through armed intervention will fail. They underscored that the sole avenue for their return is through a negotiated exchange deal and advancing to the subsequent phase of dialogue.
“The primary goal is to return home,” stated the soldier. “Regardless of whether this is a second, third, or initial phase, once the narrative concludes, all captives will be freed.”
In an emotional plea, an unnamed individual implored for their safe return, emphasizing the harsh conditions they are enduring. The person described the environment as challenging, marked by a lack of sunlight and the harsh impact of winter’s cold. They further highlighted the inadequate provisions and care they are receiving, noting that it is more suited for soldiers than for civilians in captivity.
In a heartfelt plea, Angrest urged the recently released captives to rally on behalf of those still held in captivity. “To those who have been fortunate enough to return home, we implore you not to forget us,” Angrest stated. “Fight for our freedom as you know the hardships and enduring struggles we face here.”
The serviceman has appealed to former U.S. President Donald Trump to exert influence on the Israeli administration in an effort to broker an agreement with the Hamas Movement.
He stated that the authority to sway Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government in order to effectively advance the agreement rests solely with her.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed its acceptance of a United States-mediated proposal for a temporary ceasefire coinciding with the observance of Ramadan and the Jewish festival of Passover, from April 12 to April 20. The US initiative also encompasses the liberation of half of the Israelis detained in Gaza.
The Hamas Movement has rejected the proposed plan, labeling it as an attempt to undermine the original three-phase agreement. This agreement encompasses a lasting cessation of the Israeli conflict and a full military withdrawal from the Gaza region.
