Intense Firefights Reported in the East Ghouta
Rif Dimashq Governate – Fierce firefights were reported in the East Ghouta between the Syrian Arab Army and Jaysh Al-Islam. Clashes broke out this morning at ‘Irbeen near the border of Zamalka, where the SAA successfully thwarted the militant attempt to breakthrough their frontline defense. A military source confirmed the death of 22 militants from Jaysh Al-Islam, including a field commander. The SAA countered the attack and pushed into the village of Zamalka, where the soldiers discovered a 14 meter long tunnel filled with weapons and ammunition.
On the border of Al-Maleeha and Zebdeen, the Syrian Arab Army and Jaysh Al-Islam engaged in violent clashes, resulting in the death of 6 Jaysh Al-Sham fighters and 4 soldiers from the SAA. Among the dead SAA soldiers was Captain Tariq Yaqoub Talaawi of the 1st Army Corps.
The Syrian Arab Army advanced to Parliament Square in Jobar this afternoon; however, they were forced to pull back amid multiple explosions and heavy gunfire. Firefights ensued between the militants, resulting in causalities on both sides.
