Iran Condemns Israeli Attacks on Syria

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran condemned the Israeli regime’s latest air strikes against Syria.

In a statement on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei strongly condemned the Zionist regime’s fresh aerial and ground strikes on areas in southern Syria and near Damascus.

Warning against the continuation of the Israeli regime’s expansionist and aggressive measures on Syrian soil, the Iranian spokesman called for decisive reaction of the international community and the Muslim countries in condemnation of the Israeli aggression and for immediate action to halt the Zionist regime’s law-breaking.

He also denounced the recurrent violation of the 1974 Agreement on Disengagement between Israel and Syria on the part of the Zionist regime, saying the attacks on Syria constitute a clear violation of the UN Charter and the international law.

The Israeli occupation of parts of Syria and the recurrent violation of the Arab country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amount to aggression, Baqaei stated, urging the UN Security Council to act immediately to force the Zionist regime to stop the violation of international peace and security.

The Israeli regime has conducted air raids targeting what it described as military bases and command centers in southern Syria and outside Damascus.

The Israeli warplanes hit the town of Kisweh, approximately 20km (12 miles) south of Damascus, as well as the southern province of Deraa late on Tuesday.

Residents of Damascus reported hearing the sound of planes flying several low passes over the capital and a series of blasts.

The bombardment came hours after Syria condemned Israel’s incursion into the country’s south and demanded it withdraw, according to the closing statement of a national dialogue summit.
