Iran Emphasizes Continued Campaign against Terrorism, Support for Syria
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian underlined that Tehran will never stop its support for Syria and anti-terrorism policies.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its current strategy in Syria and will not change its strategy of fight against extremism and support for Syria,” Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoabi in Tehran on Sunday.
“Supporting the neighbors, friends and allies is prioritized in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy,” he added.
Zoabi, for his part, appreciated Iran’s support for the Syrian government and people in their war against terrorism, and said, “Syria is facing a Zionist conspiracy and unfortunately, certain regional states are accomplices to this conspiracy.”
In relevant remarks on Saturday, Iranian Supreme Leader’s top adviser for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati underlined that the nuclear agreement between Tehran and the world powers has further empowered the country, allowing it to increase aid and assistance to its regional allies.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will support the resistance front and of course, with the nuclear agreement, it will have more power for partnership and supporting its friends in the region,” Velayati said, addressing an international religious forum in Tehran.
He referred to the attempts made by the western states and the reactionary regional states to overthrow the Syrian government, and said they have already failed to attain their goal.
Yet, he warned that Iran and its allies might face more challenges compared with the past, and added, “But the resistance front is in a much better and stronger shape and situation than the past.”
Also in June, Velayati said that Syria had always been one of the most important components of the anti-Zionism resistance movement in the region, and stressed that Tehran would not leave Damascus alone in its hard days of war on terrorism.
“The US, the Zionists and the region’s reactionaries have joined forces” to undermine the resistance movement in the region and provide a safe haven for the Israeli regime, Velayati said in a meeting with Syrian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Laham in Tehran.
Velayati also said Iran would continue supporting the Syrian people and government who were “standing firmly against the Zionists and the ISIL terrorists,” adding that “terrorists will definitely be defeated” in Syria.
