Iran FM Spox described General Soleimani as a figure who captured the hearts of many
The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baqaei, lauded the late Iranian commander, Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, as a revered hero who had garnered widespread admiration among the general populace.
In a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, Baqaei honored the fifth anniversary of General Soleimani’s martyrdom. General Soleimani was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Iraq in 2020.
A spokesperson highlighted that despite modern warfare’s reliance on weapons and explosives, General Soleimani earned the title of the “commander of hearts” for his unique approach.
According to Baqaei, prominent leaders are distinguished not by their territorial conquests, but by their ability to win the hearts of the populace, a quality that ensures the enduring legacy of their achievements.
He also praised the late commander as a significant hero in the battle against terrorism.
In January 2020, a targeted US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport resulted in the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani, the former head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force. The operation also claimed the life of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy leader of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), among others. The strike occurred during General Soleimani’s official visit to the Iraqi capital.
The two commanders garnered significant acclaim for their instrumental roles in dismantling the Daesh terrorist organization across the region, with a notable impact in Iraq and Syria.
